Homeschool Sewing - A Year of Stitches, Courage, and Quiet Triumphs — Reflecting on 2025

As I sit in my cozy little studio at the end of another beautiful year, I can’t help but feel my heart swell with pride. 2025 has been a year threaded with courage, creativity, and the soft hum of sewing machines—some brand new, some well‑loved, all held by little hands learning to trust themselves.

Some of the girls who joined me this year have been with me since just after the Covid lockdown lifted. They were tiny then—wide‑eyed, unsure, but eager to try. Watching them grow, not only in skill but in confidence and character, has been one of the greatest joys of my work.

One girl in particular will stay with me forever. She arrived trembling at the sight of her sewing machine, convinced it might roar to life and swallow her whole. Today, she sets it up with the ease and grace of someone who has made peace with her own bravery. I don’t even need to assist her anymore. She conquered something far bigger than a machine—she conquered her fear. And I had the privilege of witnessing it.

I started this Homeschool Sewing endeavour just after the pandemic, when the world felt fragile and in need of gentle, creative spaces. My workshops have always been small, but they have become the most marvelous way to end every week on a high note. Every Friday, my studio fills with laughter, concentration, tangled threads, and tiny victories.

The Three Workshops That Shape Our Fridays

  1. Get Your Sewing Machine Licence

This is where the journey begins.

Children meet their own machines—sometimes with excitement, sometimes with nerves—and explore them in a safe, encouraging environment. We start with simple exercises, learning the rules and rhythms of sewing. By the end of the year, each child completes their very first project from start to finish.

And then comes the moment they beam with pride: receiving their sewing machine licence.

  2. Sewing Machine Workshops

Once they’ve earned their licence, the real fun begins.

Each child brings their own machine, and together we create small projects that teach technique, patience, and joy. At the end of the year, they receive a participation certificate—perfect for homeschool records, but even more perfect for their growing sense of accomplishment.

  3. Hand Sewing Workshops
Because sometimes, all you need is a needle, a thread, and a quiet moment.

These workshops are a gentle reminder that beautiful things can be made slowly, by hand. Some children start here; others come to refine their embroidery skills. Every stitch is a tiny meditation. And yes—there’s a certificate waiting at year’s end too.

A Place for Every Homeschool Child

There is room here for every child who wants to try.

Some stay for a season and then move on—and that is perfectly okay. Others fall deeply in love with sewing… or perhaps with the calming effect it has on their souls. Each child brings something unique into the studio, and each one leaves with a little more confidence than they arrived with.

There is a lesson to be learned by everyone—sometimes even by me.

Looking Toward 2026

Every little achievement this year has felt like one of my own.

Every knot untangled, every seam straightened, every proud smile—these are the moments that keep me inspired.

I cannot wait to see what 2026 has in store for the needles and threads in my studio. New faces, new projects, new stories waiting to be stitched.

If you would like your child to join me this year, visit my page and make your online booking before the end of January 2026.

Space is limited, and I would love to welcome your young maker into our creative little community.

Here’s to another year of courage, creativity, and the quiet magic of handmade things.
