Why are sewing workshops important?
A sewing machine—or even a simple needle and thread—can feel surprisingly intimidating when you need them most but haven’t yet learned how to use them. That’s exactly why sewing workshops can be so valuable for your children. Here are a few reasons to consider sending them.

Hard skills
Being able to sew—or mend a broken garment—is a skill that will serve you throughout your life.

Soft skills
Skills like patience, endurance, and resilience become lifelong strengths that no one can ever take away.

The thrill of success
It’s true that sewing is cheaper than therapy, yet its greatest gift is the satisfaction of mastering a challenge.
Sewing Workshop Features Overview
One‑hour workshops run every Friday from February to November. We pause during public and school holidays. Because these sessions are designed with the homeschool community in mind, they take place on a weekday, with three convenient time‑slots to choose from.
Sewing Kit
Participants collect sewing tools over the workshop series, receiving each item exactly when required.
Personal Assistance
I personally support each lesson, shaping guidance around your interests, confidence level, and learning speed.
Regular machine cleansing
I help every participant clean their sewing machine regularly by teaching a quick mini‑service process.

Small Classes
Friday sewing classes run with no more than six learners, creating a supportive, personal environment.
Certificate of Participation
Each year, participants receive a certificate of participation, issued separately from the machine licence.
Do not buy anything
Materials are provided by me and included in the price, unless mentioned differently beforehand.
Questions and Answers

What are hand-sewing workshops?
We begin with the essentials—learning to understand, respect, and confidently use each tool while gradually building a complete sewing kit through engaging lessons. Once the basics are in place, we move on to simple hand‑sewing projects. Along the way, your child learns new techniques, skills, and creative approaches, progressing naturally with every lesson.

Collect your sewing kit kick-off.
What is that about?
Each learner in my ongoing Friday classes gradually builds a sewing kit, piece by piece, through guided workshops, and it’s included in the monthly fees. The kit may go home but must return for every session, teaching responsibility and care. Please don’t add or buy extra items—additional tools will be provided throughout the year as needed for specific projects.

What are sewing machine workshops?
If your child doesn’t yet have a sewing kit, we’ll begin by creating one together during a few guided workshops. After that, we’ll revisit the basics of using a sewing machine. When your child is ready, we’ll move on to small, enjoyable machine‑sewn projects throughout the year, building confidence and creativity step by step.

What is the Sewing Machine Licence?
The sewing machine licence is a light‑hearted yet meaningful reward given to children who complete this course. Many beginners feel intimidated by a sewing machine, so I guide each child with clear instruction and gentle practice. By year’s end, they’ll operate a sewing machine with growing confidence, skill, and a sense of proud accomplishment.

Can the parents join in?
Your child is safe and well cared for during lessons. Parents are welcome to pop in briefly, though I find children enjoy the experience more when they can focus independently. A CCTV camera is available should you wish to review any moment, and you’re always welcome to book a lesson yourself and join in the fun.

What about load-shedding?
We have clear plans in place for power outages and load‑shedding days. If needed, we simply switch to hand‑sewing activities. These moments become meaningful opportunities to practise adaptability, as sewing naturally nurtures creativity, problem‑solving, and improvisation. Learners discover how to stay resourceful and confident, even when circumstances shift unexpectedly.

What sewing machine do I need for the occasion?
You don’t need a fancy sewing machine to join. Having one is a bonus, but we’ll focus on the basics. A simple starter machine is perfectly suitable, as long as it allows control of stitch width, stitch length, basic stitch options, tension settings, a reverse function, and includes a working foot pedal with the necessary plugs.

Communication - How are we kept up to date?
I use a one‑way WhatsApp group to share important updates with all apprentice seamstresses and their parents, and I’ll add your number once enrolled. You’re also welcome to join my email list, where I share news, reminders, and any changes throughout the year, ensuring you stay informed and connected at all times.
